John S. Berg, CEO

Carpe Diem Technologies, Inc. was started in 2005, and is John Berg’s third start-up.  Berg lead Firefly Technologies, Inc. and Aprilis, Inc. after having held management and engineering positions at Zygo, Quantum, and Digital Equipment Corp.

Firefly was a leader in producing enabling technology, components and metrology, first, for optical data storage and then for optical telecom. It was distinguished by the precision fabrication and replication technology which combined semiconductor-like wafer fabrication techniques, precision machining and first of its kind in-house developed metrology. It was acquired by Zygo Corporation (formerly NASDAQ::Zigo, and now NYSE::AME Ametek) a recognized world leader in metrology and capital equipment for $100 Million in 2000. Mr. Berg was a member of the BOD and President of the micro optical division.

Aprilis was a VC backed start-up working on a premise of holographic data storage. The company successfully demonstrated a number of milestones in data storage and then pivoted to developing holographic finger print biometric IP and technology being used today.
